The United Nation and the African Union have named their special envoys to the DRC. The Senegalese Lieutenant-General Babacar Gaye has been put in charge of the United Nations troops in the DRC.
The former Nigerian president, Olesegun Obasanjo was named by the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Kin-Moon, As his special Envoy to the DRC. After his appointment, Olesegun Obasanjo said is ready to head to the region to meet the Congolese president Mr Joseph Kabila and the Rwandan president Mr Paul kagame, according to Radiookapi.net. For his part , The African Union president, Jean Ping named Ibrahim Fall, the former senegalese foreign affairs minister and former UN Special Envoy to the Grand Lacs region, as an Envoy for the crisis in the DRC. Ibrahim Fall is expected in Kinshasa on wednesday 5 november 2008
